The International Institute of Sugar Beet Research (IIRB) is seeking to appoint a
Deputy Secretary General (f/m/d)
as of 1 January 2027
About us:
The International Institute of Sugar Beet Research (IIRB) is an international scientific and professional association dedicated to advancing sugar beet research and cultivation, registered as a non-profit association in Belgium. As an independent, non-profit organization, the IIRB connects around 340 members from 23 sugar beet-growing countries and provides a platform for international networking, knowledge exchange and collaboration among researchers, experts and practitioners. Through international congresses, seminars, expert meetings and working groups, IIRB facilitates the exchange of scientific knowledge and promotes its transfer into practice, contributing to efficient and sustainable sugar beet production. The IIRB working office is located in Göttingen, Germany, and offers an international working environment with close links to the global sugar beet research community.
Your Tasks:
- Organization and management of meetings (81st Congress March 2028 (Brussels), Seminars, Study group meetings) in cooperation with the Scientific Advisory Committee
- Organization and management of the Council meetings in cooperation with the Presidents
- Organization and management of the yearly General Assembly
- All administrative and content-related tasks concerning the IIRB
- Accounting and budget management in cooperation with the tax advisor and the Treasurer
- Membership administration and communication with members
- Public relations, including the society’s website and LinkedIn presence
- Networking with partner organizations, research institutions, growers' associations, and industry
Your profile:
- You have successfully completed a university degree in a relevant discipline, such as biology, agricultural sciences, social sciences, science management, or a related field
- You are interested in science management and in facilitating knowledge transfer and exchange among researchers, industry, growers’ associations, and other relevant stakeholders. Experience in science management and/or association work is desirable
- Experience in accounting and management of a scientific society or non-profit organization is desirable
- You are a strong communicator and enjoy knowledge transfer tasks
- You think strategically and have an independent, proactive, and forward-thinking approach to your work
- You demonstrate initiative and strong organizational skills
- You have excellent oral and written language skills in English and German, French is desirable
- You enjoy working in an environment that requires a high degree of flexibility and the
ability to cooperate

- A part-time position (60%), corresponding to approximately 24 hours per week
- Remuneration in accordance with the TV-L, up to pay grade EG 13, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience
- An annual special payment (Christmas bonus) in accordance with the applicable TV-L provisions

The position is offered as a fixed-term parental leave replacement from 1 January 2027 until approximately 15 April 2028. The fixed term is based on the temporary replacement of an employee during maternity leave. The actual duration of the employment may be affected by an early return from maternity leave, in accordance with the applicable statutory provisions.
