*Senior Backend Engineer**
*Berlin \| Hybrid**
We’re working with an established technology business that is continuing to invest heavily in its engineering capabilities. They’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer with strong Python experience to join a collaborative product team and take ownership of important backend services and cloud infrastructure.
This is a hands\-on role for someone who enjoys building robust systems, improving performance and working closely with engineers across the wider product organisation.
*The Role**
You’ll play a key role in designing, developing and evolving backend services within a predominantly cloud\-based environment.
Your responsibilities will include:
Designing and developing scalable backend services using Python and AWS
* Building efficient serverless applications and APIs
* Working with technologies such as AWS Lambda, S3 and other AWS services
* Developing and maintaining APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI, Django or Flask
* Designing and optimising data solutions using PostgreSQL, DynamoDB and caching technologies
* Improving application performance, reliability and scalability
* Establishing and improving automated testing, including unit, integration and end\-to\-end testing
* Contributing to CI/CD processes and engineering standards
* Working with modern dependency and package management approaches
* Helping maintain clean, well\-documented and maintainable codebases
* Contributing to the architecture and integration of backend services with other parts of the wider technology ecosystem
* Working closely with frontend engineers, QA, product, UX/UI and AI specialists
* Taking an active role in an agile development environment and contributing ideas that improve how the team works
*What We’re Looking For**
We’re looking for an experienced backend engineer who enjoys solving technical problems and wants genuine ownership over the systems they build.
You’ll ideally bring:
5\+ years of professional backend development experience
* Strong commercial experience with Python
* Experience with TypeScript and/or JavaScript
* Hands\-on experience building APIs and backend services
* Experience with frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, Flask or similar
* Strong knowledge of relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL
* Experience with NoSQL technologies such as DynamoDB would be beneficial
* Good understanding of AWS and cloud\-based architecture, particularly serverless technologies
* Experience with automated testing and modern software development practices
* Familiarity with CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions
* Experience with modern Python dependency management tools such as Poetry, uv or pip
* **A good understanding of software architecture, design patterns, scalability and performance is a must**
* Experience working within an agile engineering team
